Trstené pri Hornáde, 5 June 2026

Pupils of the primary school in Trstené pri Hornáde took part in Eco Day, which focused on nature conservation, environmental protection, and environmental education.

The morning was dedicated to seven groups of pupils, who rotated through seven thematic stations. Each group gradually completed the full programme in a rotation system, allowing children to expand their knowledge about nature and the environment in an interactive way. The stations featured activities prepared by organizations KOSIT, a.s., the Slovak Water Management Enterprise, state-owned company, and the State Nature Conservancy of the Slovak Republic. The programme was complemented by creative eco-activities, environmental puzzles, nature observation, and a relaxation zone. Pupils learned about waste management, the protection of watercourses, biodiversity, and the importance of nature in everyday life.

Eco Day fostered environmental awareness among pupils within the #FloodBOTI project.

The aim of Eco Day was to show pupils that environmental protection concerns everyone and that even small changes in behaviour can contribute to a more sustainable future.

“Such activities help children better understand environmental topics by experiencing them in practice,” the organisers stated.

The event was implemented by Agentúra na podporu regionálneho rozvoja Košice, n.o. within the #FloodBOTI project, funded by the Interreg Hungary–Slovakia Programme.

The FloodBOTI project promotes sustainable water and nature management.

The project promotes a safer life along the Bodrog and Tisza rivers, a healthier natural environment, and sustainable management of water resources. Through cooperation between Slovak and Hungarian partners, it contributes to improved flood protection, ecosystem restoration, and increased environmental awareness.

The European Union contribution to the project amounts to  59 184, 72 €.
