Project HOBO

The life between the Hernad and Bodrog rivers

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Agency for the Support of Regional Development, Košice in cooperation with the Tokaj Borvidék Fejlődéséért Nonprofit Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság (Maďarsko) (Hungary) are implementing a joint project with the aim of developing the cross-border area.

The target area of the project is characterized by the Hornád River and the mountainous area of the Slanské (SK) and Zemplínské (HU) Hills, the lowland course of the Bodrog River and the Tokaj vineyard area on both sides of the border. The uniqueness of the Tokaj region lies in its suitability for growing vines in the harmony of climate and soil. For centuries, the unified Tokaj region is destined for a unified approach in the presentation of the Tokaj brand and for the well-functioning cooperation of residents from both sides of the border. There are many historical, cultural and natural attractions in the area. The mountainous territory between the two rivers is remarkable for the common history of mining development, the common use of natural resources. The present confirms that the repopulation of the countryside has great potential for the development of the cross-border region, not only for increasing the number of visitors to the territory.

The mentioned territory would gain and intensify its development if the cross-border territories were more connected and the level of cooperation increased.

Project goal and output:

The main goal of the project is to increase the readiness of the territory defined by the rivers Bodrog and Hornád for development in the field of cross-border cooperation. We want to achieve this goal through a thorough analysis of the territory and its potential, networking of local actors and the creation of cross-border partnerships, which will be followed by the compilation of a stack of cross-border projects.

The main output of the project after its implementation will be a 3-language (SK/HU/EN) strategic document with a significant cross-border impact on the target territory. The aforementioned strategic document will serve as a basis for cross-border development for the next 7-year program period.
