Summary of the project part:
The Agency for the Support of Regional Development Košice will organise two clean-ups of the Bodrog River area to remove the waste that comes in during floods in cooperation with Slovak Watermanagement Enterprise. In addition, it will organise 15 educational events in schools and 5 in municipalities to raise awareness of environmental protection and will organise two eco-days for the public.
Benefits of the cooperation:
The proliferation of invasive plants, the poor condition of floodplains and rivers, and the problems of water retention in wetlands are challenges shared by Slovakia and Hungary. To improve the situation, the three partners decided to work together on a project. What exactly will happen?
In Hungary, the North Hungarian Water Directorate will restore 60 hectares of grassland, mow the right bank of the southern Tisza in the Borsod area, plant 20 hectares of native tree species, remove invasive plant species from 10 hectares and revitalise 10 hectares of wetlands in former mining areas.
In Slovakia, the Slovak Watermanagement Enterprise will clear 20 kilometres of the canal at Klin nad Bodrog of invasive plants, build two new sluice gates at Stary Bodrog to ensure water supply between Klin nad Bodrog and Streda nad Bodrog, and reconstruct one outlet of a dam.
