Ing. Ľubomír Gerda

Director

Originally from Prešov, he is a graduate of the University of Economics in Bratislava, Faculty of Business Management in Košice, specializing in Business Economics and Management. After gaining initial professional experience in the banking sector, he has been fully dedicated to public administration and projects funded by European and structural funds since 2012.
He worked at the Office of the Prešov Self-Governing Region, focusing on financial management and control of EU-funded projects. From 2018, he held the position of Head of the Intermediate Body for the Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP) at the Office of the Košice Self-Governing Region. He led a team that successfully implemented dozens of development projects for municipalities, public institutions, non-profit and church organizations, and private companies across the Košice Region – with investments exceeding 150 million euros.
Since July 1, 2024, he has been serving as the Director of the Košice Regional Development Agency, n.o., where he brings over a decade of professional experience in regional development, public policy, and EU project implementation. His goal is to strategically strengthen the agency’s position as a key partner for modern, green, and sustainable development in the Košice Region.

Jozef Šuľak

Deputy Director

(Certified Project Manager – IPMA Level C)

He has been working at the Agency since 2005 as a project manager. He focuses on the preparation and implementation of projects, particularly in the field of tourism, as well as on the development of strategic planning documents, feasibility studies, and financial and economic analyses.
He also has experience in training related to strategic planning, project proposal development, project implementation, and project evaluation. He participated in the administration of the Terra Incognita grant programme.
He is a graduate of the Faculty of Business Management in Košice, University of Economics in Bratislava. He has further deepened his expertise in regional development through various courses and training programmes both in Slovakia and abroad.

Henrieta Kiraľvargová

Project manager

She has been working for the Agency since 2007. From the beginning, she coordinated projects aimed at socially disadvantaged groups of the population, currently at sustainable mobility, and the use of local resources. It participates in the preparation of strategic development documents of a regional and local nature. In the years 2002 - 2006 she worked at the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, in the field of nature protection, where she dealt with administrative proceedings - granting exemptions from territorial and species protection. In 2001 she graduated in environmental studies at the Faculty of Science, Comenius University in Bratislava. In the summer of 2005, she graduated from a summer school at the University of Oslo in Norway with a focus on energy planning and sustainable development.

Valéria Frischová

Economist

He has been working in the Agency since 2007 and is responsible for the Agency's accounting as well as the accounting of individual projects, payroll and personnel administration and cash flow management. He has more than 15 years of experience in accounting for non-profit organizations. She is a graduate of the Mining Faculty of the Technical University in Košice, and she started accounting intensively after completing a retraining course.

Martina Mihalíková

Project manager

She has been working at the Agency as a project manager since October 2021. She is involved in the implementation of projects in the field of education and capacity building. She graduated with a master's degree in special pedagogy from Comenius University in Bratislava, during which she organized an international educational project to support inclusion. In 2013, she participated in the UNESCO model simulation in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in 2020 in the UN model simulation in New York, United States, where she participated in formulating current recommendations on how to improve the political, cultural, educational or health areas of the participating states. He has many years of experience in the preparation and implementation of international Erasmus + projects. Already during her studies, she was actively involved in various national or international projects, working as a youth worker or mentor for volunteers.

Lenka Krištofová

Project manager

She has been working at the Agency as a project manager since November 2021. She is involved in the implementation of projects in the field of climate change and environmental protection. She holds a master's degree in geography in regional development. During her studies, she gained experience in the field of the environment by working at the Slovak Environment Agency in Košice, where she worked on the development of documents on the abiotic component of the environment for various strategic documents. In 2013, she became the leader of the international project The faces of landscape of the Ersamus + program. She completed several internships, study stays and active participation in conferences abroad (Slovenia, Austria, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Croatia). The most valuable experience was a two-month internship at Qeen Mary University of London, where she participated in a research stay in the field of regional development and regional policy.

Dominika Tóth

Project manager

She has been working at the Agency as a project manager since October 2021. She deals with projects in the field of education and capacity building. He has experience in managing, writing and implementing cross-border projects. At the P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, he obtained the degree of Mgr. in English for European Institutions and Economics and a PhD. in the field of linguistics. During her doctoral studies at UPJŠ, she worked as a department coordinator of the Erasmus + program. In 2020, she received a scholarship from the Collegium Talentum program. During her studies in Košice, she wrote and managed projects for the Interreg program and projects in the field of environmental studies. She was a member of the youth organization KIKELET, in which she organized various events for university students. In addition to Slovak and English, he is fluent in Hungarian.

Marcela Juhászová

Financial manager

He has been working in the Agency as a financial manager since 2011 and is mainly engaged in financial monitoring and reporting of projects in the field of cross-border cooperation financed from the European Structural Funds. He has many years of experience in controlling and financial management of projects. In the years 2005 - 2008 she completed her doctoral studies at the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, specializing in financial and commercial activities. Even after graduating, he continues to expand his knowledge by completing various courses and training in the field of controlling, law and financial management.

Katarína Kopčiková

Project manager

She has been working for the agency since May 2022. He deals with projects in the field of education and capacity building. He has experience in management, writing
and the implementation of environmental projects. She studied at Pavel Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, where
holds a Master's degree in Environmental Ecology.
She worked at the Institute of Geotechnics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences as a researcher in the Department of Environmental Biotechnology.
She completed her doctoral studies at the Technical University in Košice in the field of Mineralurgy and Environmental Technologies.
She has participated in scientific projects aimed at monitoring environmental pressures in regions affected by mining activities.
As part of the APVV and VEGA projects, she participated in the development of a pilot pilot of biotechnological pre-treatment of quartz sands.
Šaštín - Stráže deposits with an environmentally friendly bioleaching method.
She was part of the GEOCEX research team from the European Structural Funds focused on research into the Earth's geosphere.
At Ekocentre Sosna, she focused on environmental education, design and implementation of environmental education programs for all ages.
She participated in the preparation and management of development projects under the auspices of Active citizen found.

Iveta Lučanská

Assistant / Administrator

He has been working in the agency since July 2006 in the position of project assistant / administrator. He cooperates in the management of the organization and administrative activities, with the director of the organization and with project managers in the creation of projects - preparation and provision of the necessary documents. Provides logistics for training, seminars, courses within the implemented projects as well as the organization itself.

Mgr. Nikoleta Genči

Communications Manager

She graduated in Central European Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. After completing her university studies, she became editor-in-chief and presenter at a regional television station in Košice, where she was responsible for managing the news department and hosted her own current affairs programme, "Premeny" ("Transformations").
Later, she worked as a news reporter for the nationwide broadcaster RTVS, appearing under the name Nikoleta Ferková. At the same time, she trained university students of media studies within the framework of the Creative Centre.
Since May 2025, she has been working as a communications manager at the Košice Regional Development Agency, where she focuses on the communication of cross-border and transnational projects related to climate, water, the circular economy, and permaculture. She writes press releases and articles, manages the website and social media, communicates with the media, and prepares visual outputs. Her goal is to transform expert topics into clear and visually engaging content that has reach, meaning, and the power to inspire.

Mgr. Gabriela Sančiová

Project Manager

An experienced project and communication manager with a long-term focus on the preparation, implementation, and promotion of national and international projects in the areas of regional development, education, and environmental topics. She has been working at the Agency for the Support of Regional Development in Košice since June 2025. Her responsibilities include project management, communication, and support for the implementation of international and regional projects with a focus on education, regional development, and digital communication.
She graduated in Public Administration from Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. As part of her postgraduate studies at the University of Economics in Bratislava, she specialized in environmental policy, risk management, and sustainable development. As a member of research teams, she contributed to the implementation of VEGA and KEGA projects. The results of her academic work have been published in renowned databases such as Web of Science and Scopus.
Her professional profile includes extensive experience in strategic planning, creation and management of EU-funded projects, as well as in digital marketing, content creation, and stakeholder communication.
During her time at the Košice Self-Governing Region, she was responsible for strategic leadership and coordination of projects within the Office of the President. She oversaw the planning and implementation of events with regional and international impact, as well as the smooth daily operations of the office. She prepared analytical and strategic materials for work meetings and official negotiations, including agendas, documentation, and the implementation of outcomes. She efficiently coordinated teams, managed projects across departments, and ensured compliance with deadlines and the quality of outputs. For official events and public appearances, she ensured protocol-level standards and a smooth course of action, including the operative handling of unexpected situations.
In the area of communication, she developed and implemented content and media strategies, managed official communication channels (including social media), coordinated media outputs, and built the office’s public image. She contributed to the modernization of internal processes by designing and implementing new communication and organizational tools. She led marketing campaigns, facilitated team activities, and systematically built a network of strategic partnerships across both the public and private sectors.
She has demonstrated strong results also in the creative sector – as a communication manager for the Košice Region Film Office, she created content, developed communication strategies, and contributed to the growth of the organization's brand. She has proven experience with website administration and the creation of visually attractive, client-oriented graphic designs.
In the non-profit sector, she worked as a project manager for international projects, responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of initiatives in the fields of non-formal education, culture, and civic participation. She focused on achieving strategic results, contributing to the development of community initiatives, strengthening social dialogue, and enhancing civic engagement.
She excels particularly in combining analytical and strategic thinking with excellent communication skills and the ability to quickly adapt to complex project environments. In her work, she connects precision with creativity and a strong results-oriented approach. She strives to increase the positive impact of projects on a regional level through high-quality management and clear, strategic communication.
