On 25 June 2025, the team from the Regional Development Agency Košice (ARR), together with partners from the LAND4CLIMATE project, participated the European Urban Resilience Forum (EURESFO) held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Organised by ICLEI, the event brings together experts, municipalities, and practitioners from across Europe who are seeking new solutions to climate challenges.

Workshop on nature-based solutions for improved water resilience
At the workshop titled “From Practice to Strategy – Innovations in Water Resilience through Nature-Based Solutions,” we presented our experiences from the Košice region. Within the LAND4CLIMATE project, we collaborate with private landowners to increase the landscape’s water retention capacity and thereby protect it from extreme weather events such as torrential rains and droughts.
In addition to our practical examples, including measures in the agricultural landscape in Roňava river basin, we drew inspiration from other parts of Europe. For example, Turin, Italy, showcased green walls that help cool urban environments and improve water management within the city.
Cooperation and funding – the key to success
Discussions at the forum demonstrated that cooperation between local communities, accessible funding, and effective project management are essential to successfully scaling up nature-based solutions across Europe. These are precisely the factors critical to the LAND4CLIMATE project as we seek to expand our results and experiences from the Košice region.
